Paradise Valley
This small community is often thought of as
a northern extension of Scottsdale because it offers a very
similar lifestyle with the focus on a tourist economy and
high-class housing that has become typical of Scottsdale.
The tourism-based economy is centered
around the area’s twelve major resorts which make Paradise
valley one of the most attractive tourist destinations in an
area known for tourism. The proximity of Paradise Valley to
Scottsdale and its location in the Phoenix Metropolitan area
make it very convenient to many golf courses and sporting venues
which are popular among locals and tourists alike.
The area is appealing enough to have drawn
celebrities ranging from politicians (Dan Quale), actors (Leslie
Nielsen) and professional atheletes (Marc Grace) among others.
Paradise Valley is also notable in having adopted the city of
Bay St. Louis in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, donating police
cars, computer equipment and manpower to the recovery effort.
The community is also committed to the
ecological preservation of its surroundings. The Mummy Mountain
Preserve Trust is a local organization whose goal is to preserve
the natural landscape of the mountainous area, including the
desert plant and wildlife.
Paradise Valley is home to a memorial for Barry
M. Goldwater, former US Senator and Presidential candidate. The
memorial includes a statue of Mr. Goldwater which was sculpted
by local artist, Joe Beeler
